OC Throwdown Results!!!

The 2011 OC Throwdown was a huge success! My first CrossFit competition ever, only 5 1/2 months of training, and I took 1st place in the Men's Intermediate Division. It was a long and grueling weekend, but the pain was worth it. Out of the 6 intense WOD's I took 1st place in two, 2nd in one, 5th in two, and 8th in the final WOD. It was an amazing two-day experience and I will definitely be back next year! Here is a video from SICFIT of me being interviewed at the Throwdown!

The "Next Level Invitational" Inspiration

I have big news...I will be competing in the 2011 Orange County CrossFit Throwdown! I have registered at the Men's Intermediate Level, and I am very excited to compete in my very first CrossFit competition! The OC Throwdown is a 2 day CrossFit event that will be held on January 15-16. I am sure I will be exhausted both physically and mentally at the end of the two full days. In other news, I just recently judged at the December 4th Next Level Invitational. I was appointed as the head judge of the vertical jump station for the day. It was an amazing experience. It was truly inspiring watching the numerous competitors fight through the  ten intense tasks they were given. It was so inspiring in fact, I wanted to test myself at two of the tasks those competitors were given, and see how well I matched up. So, I decided to find both my Max Pull-Ups and Max Deadlift. Here are my results:

Max Pull-Ups: 40
Max Deadlift: 405 lbs.

This was my first attempt at Max Pull-Ups, so it is an obvious Personal Record. But, I also set a new Personal Record for my Deadlift. I jumped from 335 lbs. to 405 lbs!

I am very pleased with my results, but I will continue to work at both of these exercises and get even better. Alright, here are the workouts I have done over the past two weeks:

"Jackie"
For Time:
1000 m row
50 Thrusters (45 lb. BARBELL!!)
30 Pull-Ups

My Results: 11:51....if you are wondering why I put barbell in all caps, it's because I read the "WOD" book incorrectly and I used TWO 45 lb. Dumbbells!!! I strongly advise against this...it was not fun at all.

2 min/Tabata Challenge:

2 minutes: As Many Reps As Possible (AMRAP) of Double Unders
2 minutes: AMRAP Sit-Ups
2 minutes: AMRAP Push-Ups
Tabata Squats - 8 rounds (20 sec. of squats then 10 sec. rest)

My Results: 130 Double Unders, 68 Sit-Ups, 73 Push-Ups, 140 Squats

"Fran"
For Time
21-15-9 (Alternating reps of each):
Thrusters (95 lbs.)
Pull-Ups

My Results: 3:47...a new PR

"Claudia"
For Time
5 rounds:
20 Kettlebell Swings (53 lbs.)
400 m run

My Results: 13:26...a new PR

Have Fun!!

Introduction

Hello to the world! My name is Taylor Yaffee. I am 18 years old, and I am currently attending Saddleback College. I have created this blog because I would like to share a part of my life with the world. About 5 months ago I was introduced to a revolutionary sport, CrossFit. The coach I work for at Aliso Niguel High School, Joshua Aycock, handed me a booklet known as the "WOD" book. The "WOD" or (Workout of the Day) book contains the benchmark workouts of CrossFit, as well as sections to track any and all workouts/records/goals you achieve. I have been addicted to CrossFit ever since, and that is where my story begins. In these series of blogs I will post what workouts I have completed and how well I did them. Here is the first workout which I completed today:

1st Event:

3 minute (AMRAP) - As Many Reps/Rounds As Possible of:
Squat Thrusters - 135 lbs.
1 minute rest then:
500 meter Row for time

My score: 25 thrusters, 1:44 for the 500 meter Row

2nd Event:

"The Bear" - 7 rounds of: Power Clean to Front Squat to Push Press/Jerk to Back Squat to Push Press/Jerk
Not allowed to rest or drop the bar on the ground at any time! You may rest the bar on your body but that's it. You must touch and go when doing the Power Clean. 3 attempts to complete all 7 rounds with your max weight on the bar.

My score: 135 lbs. on the bar

3rd Event:

15 minute (AMRAP) of:

6 Chest to Bar Pull-Ups
9 Burpees
18 Squats

My Score: 10 rounds & 6 CTB Pull-Ups

Let me know how you feel after this! Have Fun!
